저는 오늘 firefox 83 업데이트 설치 알림이 떠서 설치를 했는데요, 릴리스 노트를 보니 가장 상단에 "page load performance by up to 15%, page responsiveness by up to 12%, and reduced memory usage by up to 8%" 라는 내용이 있어서 검색해보니, 위와 같은 기술 블로그(Mozilla Hacks) 포스트가 있었습니다.

Firefox 의 Javascript 엔진인 SpiderMonky 에 JIT (WarpBuilder) 가 적용되어서 상당한 수준의 성능 향상이 기대된다는게 Firefox 83 릴리스 노토에 실린 내용이고 링크한 기술 블로그는 좀더 상세하게 동작 방식을 설명하는 내용입니다.

일반적으로 페이지 모음이라고 느껴지는 사이트들은 별로 그런 경우가 없는데, "웹앱이다"라는 느낌을 주는 싱글페이지 앱이나 위지위그 에디터 등이 들어가 있는 사이트들은 파이어폭스에서 크롬보다 더 굼뜨다는 느낌을 자주 받는데요, (아마 개발사들이 크롬/사파리 위주로 개발을 하는 탓이 더 클 것 같지만...)

파이어폭스 자체 성능이 개선되면 이런 부분에서도 체감 성능이 더 좋아지길 기대해봅니다.
